Alexandre Eggers Garcia was born in Cachoeira do Sul, where he started on the radio as an actor in radio soap operas at the age of 6, in 1947. He broadcasted the Sunday Mass at the age of 15 and then became an announcer and newscaster at Lajeado's Independent Radio. After moving to Porto Alegre, he paid his studies working as an announcer at Radio Difusora.
Journalist Alexandre Garcia graduated from PUC, Rio Grande do Sul, where he later became a professor. He has been living in Brasilia for 43 years. He was an international correspondent for Jornal do Brasil and then press subsecretary for the Brazilian President Figueiredo for 18 months. He was director of TV Manchete and director of journalism at TV Globo in Brasilia. He worked for 31 years at TV Globo as a special reporter, commentator and substitute journalist for Jornal Nacional, Bom Dia Brasil, and a weekly program at Globonews, as well as commentator and presenter of the local news. He writes for two monthly magazines and has a weekly column in dozens of newspapers. He also worked as a war correspondent in Angola. Lebanon and Malvinas and received from Queen Elizabeth II the order of the British Empire. He was also a special correspondent in Peru, Paraguay, Colombia, Chile, Argentina and Uruguay. He is the author of two books: "João Presidente" and "Behind the News" which sold more than 60 thousand books.
